Q. How does one know whether a product contains trans fats if it's not specifically identified on the nutrition label?

A. If the ingredients list includes the words "shortening", "partially hydrogenated vegetable oil" or "hydrogenated vegetable oil", the food contains trans fatty acids.
Also note that the ingredients of a product are listed in descending order with smaller amounts present when the ingredient is close to the end of the list.
